ALEXA MEADE | THE ART OF TRANSFORMATION

In cooperation with the Ingo Seufert Gallery, BASF Schwarzheide presents the largest ever showcase of works by the American artist Alexa Meade under the title “The Art of Transformation” at the BASF Kulturhaus. As global market leader in the chemical industry, BASF has to adapt itself daily to the constantly changing conditions of globalization. Internal and external transformation processes are an integral part of the long-established company’s corporate strategy and culture. Art has been given the task of communicating and visualizing these changes. What contemporary artist could be more suitable for this than Alexa Meade, who has been causing a worldwide sensation since 2010 through her unique technique of transforming real people and objects into two-dimensional pictorial surfaces through illusionistic painting. Her artworks challenge the viewer’s perceptions and cause them to rethink the relationship between reality and image, role model and re-creation, permanence and transformation. By artistically interpreting her models onto themselves and then immortalizing them in a photograph, the artist transforms reality into a symphony of color, giving the viewer a completely new, curious look at the supposedly familiar.

The exhibition will show 75 fine art prints from all phases and genres of her work, as well as numerous original painted objects. A catalog containing all the works exhibited will be available at the exhibition or via Amazon.
