ALEXA MEADESTREET ART WORKS

Since her worldwide breakthrough in 2010, the American artist Alexa Meade (b. 1986) has fascinated with her special technique that challenges the perception: She doesn‘t paint on canvas but paints what she sees on the objects themselves, thus becoming an interpretation of themselves. In addition, there‘s no visible break line between the models or painted objects and the surrounding space in the photographic image, creating the illusion of a two-dimensional, self-contained image surface. In her seventh exhibition curated by Ingo Seufert Gallery, a total of 21 fine art prints in the street art style will be presented, including a previously unseen work from 2012.

Her starting point was the implementation of the respective brightness values on the human body as a painting in shades of gray. After the polychrome color became more and more important in her work, she discovered pure black and white painting for herself, which she initially propagated in the studio, but then, under the impression of the works of Keith Haring and Banksy, increasingly outside as street art performance in combination with graffiti backdrops: Many of those works were created in 2012, e.g in Zurich, London, Madrid and Melbourne, as a kind of stylistic alternative to the intriguing MILK series of that year. Also in Tokyo in 2012, Meade created a link to the third dimension in the form of painted glass panels that repeate and superimpose the black contours of a model painted in black and white. In addition, in 2014 she created two works with London photographer Lacey as part of a campaign for Details Magazine. At Art Paris 2015, she presented the CMYK series, in which the models and background merge with each other due to their barcode-like painting. The shooting of a couple painted in black and white in San Francisco became famous in 2016, as the male model used to propose to his girlfriend in front of the camera. After some street art performances in color, picking up elements of pop art, the artist returned to pure black and white painting in some of her recent commissioned works, such as the 2019 performances for adidas Sports Club and for Apple.
In her seventh exhibition curated by Ingo Seufert Gallery, a total of 21 fine art prints by the artist will be presented, including a previously unseen work from 2012.
